Kristen Wheatley’s Story

I am a passionate local and organic food advocate and have always gardened for my own family. This year I had the opportunity to work part time as the outreach coordinator for the Lewiston Farmers Market. I have a .39 acre yard with a tiny house that doesn’t take up much room and plan to turn the rest of the yard over into food production (organic of course.) Part of the garden will be dedicated to growing veggies for the market (Kristen’s Quirky Veggies) – I’ll be growing and selling all of the more odd veggies (purple cauliflower, mini egglants, edible flowers, etc.) The other half will be grown as a community garden to supply any and all neighbors and community members with free produce. To get a jump start on the season and produce the best results I really need a hoop house due to our shorter growing season, as well as a few loads compost/peat moss. I already have the needed tools, a seed source, and access to tons of expert advice from our farmers at the market. I need to raise $2000 for the hoop house, market supplies, and soil amendments to make this venture a reality.
