Jolene Davis’ Story
After a 2 year hiatus of working on another farm, my husband and I are restarting Quail Run Farm. Our customers want organic produce and we want to provide them with the best quality foods we can. With our land being unused for 2 years getting our organic certification will be easier. We do a lot of veggie starts for our customers as well but the produce is the main concern at this point. Offering organic produce to our customers is a goal we have had but were unable to accomplish. We have not used pesticides/herbicides which our customers know and appreciate but the \”No spray\” designation we use is slightly vague.
We would love to have our farm and the site for a new high tunnel organically certified. The certification process can be costly, the grant hopefully would cover the costs of this and part of a new high tunnel.
We have served people at Grants Pass Growers Market and at Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market for 12 years. We donate leftover produce to ROC (Reaching Our Community) food bank and to our church. We have been able to sell produce to the school district so children are benefitting from a fresher and healthier food source. The high tunnel would allow us to grow earlier in the year to serve the schools for a longer season.
